The cornerstone of a great business program is an exceptional faculty. There are several ways your support can strengthen the Scheller College of Business, from nurturing and rewarding early career professors to attracting and retaining distinguished senior academic leaders. Outstanding faculty members create the next generation of scholars, engage in innovative research, and explore new ideas with undergraduate and graduate students.
Establishing a named endowment for faculty support allows for a degree of flexibility to be afforded to the dean when the funds are awarded. Depending upon the needs of the College at the time and the endowment balance, these funds may be awarded as one (1) chair, two (2) professorships, four (4) early career professorships, or general faculty research and summer support. This approach, which has been successfully executed in many colleges and schools across campus, will provide the dean with maximum flexibility in meeting the most pressing needs of the faculty and college.
The visibility and stature of an appointment to an endowed faculty chair is the highest recognition accorded to an Institute faculty member. Chair holders draw talented students to the College, attract junior and senior faculty, stimulate innovative research, and leverage external funding to advance their research programs. Endowed chairs are awarded to faculty who are pre-eminent teacher-scholars in their respective fields.

Faculty professorships bridge the gap between early career professorships and the seniority of endowed chair holders. Income from endowed faculty professorships enable Georgia Tech to attract and retain outstanding associate professors by providing them with the resources to help them take their place among the next generation of faculty leaders. Endowed professorships give faculty the resources to remain at the forefront of teaching and research and to enhance student development. Professorships are highly valuable to the College as they provide an opportunity to recognize and retain faculty members at a stage in their careers where peer and aspirational institutions seek to recruit promising faculty away from Scheller College.

Early career professorships are given to the most promising faculty members at the beginning of their careers, usually for a period of three to five years, and provide a major incentive to attract and retain those women and men who will become tomorrow’s leading teacher-scholars. Early career professorships provide support and flexibility to encourage innovation in teaching and research, thereby nurturing the professional advancement of the named assistant professor during the critical pre-tenure years.
