You Can Help Us Transform Lives

Your Funding Makes a Huge Difference to Students like

Marquetta and Marteisha Griffin

Georgia Tech’s mission as a public university includes expanding access to people of all backgrounds by placing the highest value on developing individual talents, regardless of students’ financial circumstances.

''At Georgia Tech we only meet half of our student's

demonstrated financial needs while peer institutions typically meet full need."

Increasingly, our peer institutions, many of them private, are guaranteeing the education of everyone they admit with generous financial packages that make their costs of attendance extremely attractive. As a result, we are losing some of the best and the brightest from Georgia and beyond because they are receiving significantly greater financial aid from other top-tier institutions. Many amongst those who choose to join Georgia Tech, without financial assistance, will have issues staying and won't be able to graduate.

At the same time, the number of in-state and out-of-state undergraduates with financial need is expected to increase in the coming years. This means that untold numbers of bright, talented students will not be able to afford Georgia Tech unless we have the resources to remove financial obstacles. Support for need-based scholarships is essential to Tech’s future.

Bridging the Gap for Out-of-State Students

Many families outside of Georgia lack the means to pay for their children to attend Tech. Helping academically qualified but financially challenged out-of-state students bridge the gap is good for students, and it’s good for the Institute. They bring with them outstanding records of academic achievement, a passion for Georgia Tech, and the geographic diversity that enriches the campus community.

A Promise Worth Making

G. Wayne Clough Georgia Tech Promise Program

The first program of its kind offered by a public university in Georgia, the G. Wayne Clough Tech Promise program mitigates financial barriers by providing a debt-free degree to hundreds of remarkable and ambitious students who, without financial assistance, may not be able to achieve their dream of graduating from Georgia Tech. The program was initially established to meet the needs for in-state students coming from households with income of $33,300 or less which has since been changed to $55,500, expanding the program from approximately 40 students per year to 75. The program does not currently meet 100% of the needs of these students, and we are seeking additional philanthropic support to cover the approximately $6.5 million per year needed to fully fund Tech Promise (current endowed funding for Tech Promise covers $2 million per year).

GT Alumni and Friends Fuel the Next Generation

Many alumni and friends have already pledged their financial support for the program, which has built a robust endowment and touched hundreds of Georgia families. That support must continue in order to enhance this permanent source of funding that fills in the financial gaps for so many deserving students who are striving for — and achieving — success.

Nicole Schuster

During her senior year of high school, Nicole Schuster, BA 2020, decided to join the Yellow Jacket family after attending a shadow day with the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. "Something about Georgia Tech felt like home," she said.

After the initial excitement wore off, though, she became increasingly concerned about her family’s ability to pay for college: "I knew I would have to figure out the money somehow."

Little did she know that Georgia Tech already had it figured out — through the G. Wayne Clough Georgia Tech Promise Program.

As a Tech Promise scholarship recipient, Schuster learned the importance of giving back and investing in the community. Without the "stress and worry" of how to cover the costs of tuition and fees, she was able to serve Georgia Tech as a student ambassador.

One day she hopes to support a Tech Promise scholarship to provide another student the chance to attend Georgia Tech debt-free.

Philanthropy: Building a Stronger Institute

Philanthropic support is crucial to strengthening Georgia Tech’s reputation as one of the nation’s premier universities that is open to all qualified students, without regard to their financial resources. Private philanthropy will ensure that Tech continues to be recognized as a place where young people from all walks of life make the most of the opportunities afforded by a world-class institution, realize their highest aspirations, and achieve great success after graduation. Endowment funds may be established with a preference for a specific state or region of the country outside of Georgia, or for a specific academic discipline.

At this critical juncture, the generosity of alumni and friends of the Institute will change lives and make Georgia Tech stronger by recruiting the very best young minds ─ students who, through their dedication and talent, have demonstrated a desire and an aptitude to become Georgia Tech graduates.
